Digipak; Making CD

Following the plan from my initial idea, which involved that of a retro vinyl cd style, i then set to work in piecing together elements to bring this vision to life. To start with I chose a template from google which would act as the outer ring of the vinyl, enabling me to fill in the middle however I wished. From google, I chose the most basic looking template, as I only required the outer black vinyl ring to be showing within my design. As shown below is the chosen image.

Following this, I then imported this image into photoshop which is where I would be piecing all of the elements together.

I then removed the white circle in the middle altogether, to give me more breathing room when inserting the images I wanted there in its place. These included the two colour swatches I have been using as a motif throughout the entirety of my ancillary products.

I placed them exactly as they are sown above and then had these underneath the vinyl layer to create the basic template of the CD, all that was then visible was the outer black layer of the vinyl and the two colours within the inside circle.

After this I then needed to create a hole within the centre of the CD to reflect what a real CD would in fact look like, along with adding a black ring around the outer circle of the two colours to make the CD look more solid.

This then lead to the idea that I needed to have a black ring around the outside of the hole in the middle as well, just because it, again, needed to look more solid and not like it was just dropping off to nowhere. so using the same method ad the black ring around the colours, I added one in, around the middle hole as well.

In order to make the CD look overall more vintage, I played around with the adjustment layers and chose 'multiply'. This essentially just darkened the colours and added more texture to the middle of the vinyl.

Finally to complete the look for the CD I needed to add the name of the band onto the CD itself. This was fairly simple as I already had the file of the title from the front cover of the digipak, therefore I simply imported this and positioned it to the location that I required.

And this is the completed version of the CD.
