Planning; Choosing an idea



My first idea was a music video about an unwanted teen pregnancy, I feel as though this may be difficult to execute if pulled off could be a very strong narrative, as well as being quite an unusual idea for a music video. it doesn't follow a stereotypical romantic narrative whereby its a 'boy meets girl' situation, it follows more of a dramatic element with hints of romance. With this particular idea, the storyline is clear and and fairly easy to follow, as well as there only really needing to be three actors cast. However the idea itself is quite controversial and would require a lot of research and careful planning, as it is quite a sensitive subject to touch on and could potentially be quite distressing for some viewers. Also a very skilled actress would be required in order to convey the immense raw emotions that would be felt during a distressing time such as this, she would be required to cry on cue and have to show a devotion to this project if I were to choose this idea. I feel as though this music video could let light to one of the taboo subjects that society may shun, and show how difficult and distressing it could be for a teenager stuck in this predicament, potentially then helping people to understand.





My second idea follows the narrative of a child and her imaginary friend, and is of a coming of age genre. With this idea I feel as though it will expand my abilities with regards to the editing process, otherwise the narrative may be unclear- therefore meaning I need to make it crystal clear to the audience that this is a girl with her imaginary friend and not just another child. Meaning I would then need to do a variety of shots twice (one with both children, and one with just the one child) in order to convey this well to the audience. Aside from this if I am able to do this and get the narrative across effectively, this could be a really rewarding project as it would take many hours to edit and piece together as opposed to idea 1. By choosing this ides it would be a great challenge and will enable me to develop my skills within the realms of media far more broadly. Although the only downside with this idea is that I would need children to act within the first third of the short film- meaning out could be difficult to get them to cooperate.

Magazine advert; Spotify logo

I figured that the magazine advert looked a little bare in the bottom right hand corner, therefore I needed something to add in here, to liven the magazine up. It was suggested to me by one of my peers that I add the Spotify logo and put, 'now available on' just before the logo. However instead of having it in black and white like the other social media logos, I thought it would add more of a pop of colour to the advert if the logo was the signature green, yet only subtly as the logo is smaller in scale compared to that of the rest of the information presented. I took the image below from google, of the Spotify logo to use within the magazine advert. Then later added the 'also available on' using the same 'Arial' font from photoshop that was used for the information about the tracks. Therefore meaning I ended up with the magazine advert you can see below.

Genre specific- Submarine short film

Submarine is a 3 minute short film, produced and directed by Cameron Whiteford and a company called Acid Flicks. Its reason for being made was that it was to take part in the 2015 Røde film competition, this short film is essentially a coming of age story centred around a young girl who loves to swim, I thought this may be relevant to my chosen storyline as it is centred around a child along with being narrated by the character. The camera shots used within this short film have proved to be successful in help to aid the storyline and narration, a wide variety of shots have been included such as; mid shots, long shots, close ups and also a few dirty shots. Within this variety of shots, I feel the strongest are the long shots and close ups, due to the fact that the long shots give such a sense of location along with enabling the audience to connect to what the characters are seeing, giving a sense of being. Magazine advert planning; Image and background

As shown within my digipak planning, I took various images of the model, in different positions. This is the chosen image for my magazine advert. The reason for choosing this particular image is due to the fact that, it matches the simplicity of the digipak image, as well as using the same model, and silhouette idea (to reflect the album title). The fact that she is holding the flowers further promotes the naturalistic element that ties together the digipak and the magazine cover. This is the colour swatch that will be used as the only colour element within the magazine advert, used as the background for the top half of the advert. The fact that I have chosen to use this colour is due to the fact that it is subtle and not too overbearing, linked to the fact that this colour has been used consistently throughout the entirety of my digipak.
