Genre specific research (digipak)

Birdy is an english singer and songwriter, her self titled album 'Birdy' as shown to the right, was released in 2011. She mainly features indie pop music, with a hint of an alternative aspect. I anticipated that it would be a good idea to research this particular digipak/artist, due to the fact that it is the same genre as my own. Therefore closely analysing the conventions and design of the digipak, to then perhaps incorporate this within my own design.

With regards to the design of this digipak, the general aura of the style is very similar to the genre of music that Birdy sings, this being of the indie/ alternative genre. This has been done through the use of a rustic, worn background giving a vintage effect, through the use of the warm colour hue. This, paired with the understated thin white writing of the album title 'Birdy' conveys this genre well. It is important within the forms of advertising to correctly show the genre of music this artist is following, to ensure the audience have a clear understanding of what they are purchasing. The element within this CD cover that is the most eye catching and prominent within the design is the singer stood in the center of the design. She would blend well, and match the vintage style background if it were not for the striking red jumper she can be seen wearing. This jumper can be said to be the direct eye focus and main element within the whole design as it is the most brazen and almost looks out of place in comparison to the rest of the pastel coloured design. The reverse side of the digipak features the same background as the front, this being the rustic peeling wallpaper effect, with the same warm hue. The font used to show the tracks on the CD is the same font used on the front cover of the album to showcase the title. Therefore keeping consistency in the form of the design by using the same font, background and hue. As well as the design itself, this digipak also contains all of the important information such as the barcode, record label and all of the companies/ names used in helping to create and produce the CD itself.
