Non-genre specific research (digipak)

J. P. Harris is a country music performer, strictly limiting himself to pure country music. His first album 'I'll keep calling' (shown right) was released in the summer of 2011. Shortly after the release it won 'best country album' of  2012. This genre is in no way related to my chosen genre of music, however I found the rustic style of the CD cover appealing and thought that it would be a good idea to research a genre that is in no way related to my own. But see how other genres may relate their digipak to their genre, therefore giving me a wider knowledge and insight into this process.

Within the design of this particular digipak, the front, back and insides of the case are clearly shown within this image. It has a rustique, country aura with regards to the general feel. The CD cover within itself, helps to convey to the audience what genre and type of music the CD withholds. So in order to insinuate that this genre is country music, images of trucks and a male in a plaid shirt with a baseball cap have been used to convey this. This is due to the fact that stereotypically, it is viewed that 'truckers' are the main audience for country style music when driving long haul journeys. The male figure is also adhering to these specific stereotypes, with regards to the heavy beard, plaid shirt, baseball cap and tattoos, as well as being quite a large man. All of these elements combined with the colour scheme conduct the country theme. These colours include 'natural', light, airy colours, associated with the outdoors and countryside, such as blues, greens and browns, mixed with white to highlight certain parts to draw attention. This brown almost tea stain colour, that has been used is the main theme colour shown on the back and inside of the case to tie in the theme and keep consistency throughout. Furthermore, with regards to the song names themselves, these also help to aid the theme of the country style. The names include accents such as 'jammin' and 'stayin' which are associated with the accent one may possess if they lived in a country type environment and were mingling with 'truckers'. After analysing this particular product I have found that is important to have means in which tie the product together- especially colour scheme, and the general theme of the digipak based on the style and genre of music.
