- Name- The name of the magazine itself is often short and catchy, this is to instantly grab the audience's attention without them having to read a long title that takes more time. With other magazines posing names such as NME and Kerrang! they are short simple and don't take a lot of time to read and stick in your head. This name is always found at the top of the magazine, with emphasis on this element as much as possible, for example bold fonts. This is then followed by the second thing that catches most peoples attention; The image on the front.
- Images- The image featured on the front of the magazine will feature a photo of an artist or band that is featured within the inside pages of the magazine, usually in the form of an interview or information on their new upcoming music. This image on the front page will more often than not, pose direct eye contact to the audience, making it look as though the artist is directly looking at you. Furthermore with regards to the shot type, this will conventionally be a close up, or if it is a band it will be a longer shot, with nothing in the background to distract the audience, just plain colours.
- Colour schemes- Colours depicted and inter-weaved within the design of the magazine tend to stick to three colours in total, to keep a consistent uniform and professional look. Also by limiting the number of colours used it still keeps the main focus of the magazine on the images used. Primary colours tend to be favoured, as they are solid pure colours, not stretching far beyond the realms of the classical colour wheel.
