Planning; Gathering ideas from other films and music videos



Within my music video I hope to create a similar shot to this one from the film Notting Hill, it is where the main character is walking through a market in London. Each time he walks behind a stall the seasons change as he is walking. This is a classy and effective way to signify the passing of time in a short clip. Therefore I hope to be able to replicate this within my media product, specifically due to the narrative of my music video, it would be a useful scene to show the characters pregnancy progression, and to show that she is near the end of her pregnancy.






These screenshots are taken from the Imagine Dragons radioactive music video. It shows a slow motion pan around this character whilst she is wearing a hoodie. I thought this was a really effective method in presenting enigma within the narrative, as well as the hoodie almost half masking the characters identity. I will replicate this shot within the external scenes of the main character after finding out she is pregnant. By doing this slow motion pan it reflects on the characters negative emotions.














These shots were taken from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt2, as you can see it involves an over the shoulder shot of Harry and Hermione at a graveyard setting, showing it to be an ultimately dismal scene  due to the weather and lighting etc. The fact that it is also snowing adds to the chilling effect. After watching this particular scene it spurred my imagination with regards to how I could incorporate the idea of this shot within my own narrative.  As ultimately i will have a graveyard scene within the ending of my music video, I thought having a panning over the shoulder shot, much like this one will reveal the shocking ending.


















Finally these two shots were taken from a short film called; if gay was straight and straight was gay. Within this scene, the character proceeds to present elements of depression and fierce fits of crying. As you can see from the screenshots, there is one of her leaning over the sink which i liked the idea of before she kills herself, therefore I will attempt to replicate a similar idea within the narrative of my music video. However my favourite is the second shot of the feet in the bath showing dripping blood, and this is originally where my idea for this shot developed, it made me want to include something similar, as it does not explicitly show the character killing themselves.

Magazine advert; Spotify logo

I figured that the magazine advert looked a little bare in the bottom right hand corner, therefore I needed something to add in here, to liven the magazine up. It was suggested to me by one of my peers that I add the Spotify logo and put, 'now available on' just before the logo. However instead of having it in black and white like the other social media logos, I thought it would add more of a pop of colour to the advert if the logo was the signature green, yet only subtly as the logo is smaller in scale compared to that of the rest of the information presented. I took the image below from google, of the Spotify logo to use within the magazine advert. Then later added the 'also available on' using the same 'Arial' font from photoshop that was used for the information about the tracks. Therefore meaning I ended up with the magazine advert you can see below.

Genre specific- Submarine short film

Submarine is a 3 minute short film, produced and directed by Cameron Whiteford and a company called Acid Flicks. Its reason for being made was that it was to take part in the 2015 Røde film competition, this short film is essentially a coming of age story centred around a young girl who loves to swim, I thought this may be relevant to my chosen storyline as it is centred around a child along with being narrated by the character. The camera shots used within this short film have proved to be successful in help to aid the storyline and narration, a wide variety of shots have been included such as; mid shots, long shots, close ups and also a few dirty shots. Within this variety of shots, I feel the strongest are the long shots and close ups, due to the fact that the long shots give such a sense of location along with enabling the audience to connect to what the characters are seeing, giving a sense of being. Magazine advert planning; Image and background

As shown within my digipak planning, I took various images of the model, in different positions. This is the chosen image for my magazine advert. The reason for choosing this particular image is due to the fact that, it matches the simplicity of the digipak image, as well as using the same model, and silhouette idea (to reflect the album title). The fact that she is holding the flowers further promotes the naturalistic element that ties together the digipak and the magazine cover. This is the colour swatch that will be used as the only colour element within the magazine advert, used as the background for the top half of the advert. The fact that I have chosen to use this colour is due to the fact that it is subtle and not too overbearing, linked to the fact that this colour has been used consistently throughout the entirety of my digipak.
