Planning; New introduce main task



The task

  These are the specifications in which OCR require students to fulfil with regards to coursework if this is the chosen brief, taken from the OCR 'Advanced portfolio in media'. Although there were a wide variety of briefs to chose from, originally I chose the idea to do a short film, however soon after starting production then decided to completely change my idea and brief, leading me to then choose the music video option. I also feel as though by creating a music video I am creating a vastly different project from that my coursework last year, as a film opening and short film are very similar. With regards to a music video I am also stepping away from the thriller genre that I chose last year, and having a dramatic romance genre- enabling me to explore different conventions and narratives within this particular group.

Ancillaries

 As it can be seen above I also have to choose two ancillary products to make alongside the music video itself, these I have to pick between the three options underneath the brief. The two I have chosen are the digipak, and a magazine advertisement, as I feel though these give me the most creative freedom, as I would incorporate elements such as Adobe photoshop, After effects- both off which I have a substantial knowledge of, whereas a website would require a more technical approach. Both products would need to follow the genre of music, this will be done by using appropriate colours and images representing the artist and the music at the same time, enabling me to create something that reflects the correct imagery.

Magazine advert; Spotify logo

I figured that the magazine advert looked a little bare in the bottom right hand corner, therefore I needed something to add in here, to liven the magazine up. It was suggested to me by one of my peers that I add the Spotify logo and put, 'now available on' just before the logo. However instead of having it in black and white like the other social media logos, I thought it would add more of a pop of colour to the advert if the logo was the signature green, yet only subtly as the logo is smaller in scale compared to that of the rest of the information presented. I took the image below from google, of the Spotify logo to use within the magazine advert. Then later added the 'also available on' using the same 'Arial' font from photoshop that was used for the information about the tracks. Therefore meaning I ended up with the magazine advert you can see below.

Genre specific- Submarine short film

Submarine is a 3 minute short film, produced and directed by Cameron Whiteford and a company called Acid Flicks. Its reason for being made was that it was to take part in the 2015 Røde film competition, this short film is essentially a coming of age story centred around a young girl who loves to swim, I thought this may be relevant to my chosen storyline as it is centred around a child along with being narrated by the character. The camera shots used within this short film have proved to be successful in help to aid the storyline and narration, a wide variety of shots have been included such as; mid shots, long shots, close ups and also a few dirty shots. Within this variety of shots, I feel the strongest are the long shots and close ups, due to the fact that the long shots give such a sense of location along with enabling the audience to connect to what the characters are seeing, giving a sense of being. Magazine advert planning; Image and background

As shown within my digipak planning, I took various images of the model, in different positions. This is the chosen image for my magazine advert. The reason for choosing this particular image is due to the fact that, it matches the simplicity of the digipak image, as well as using the same model, and silhouette idea (to reflect the album title). The fact that she is holding the flowers further promotes the naturalistic element that ties together the digipak and the magazine cover. This is the colour swatch that will be used as the only colour element within the magazine advert, used as the background for the top half of the advert. The fact that I have chosen to use this colour is due to the fact that it is subtle and not too overbearing, linked to the fact that this colour has been used consistently throughout the entirety of my digipak.
