Non-genre specific- Paperman

Image
Paperman is an 2012 American black and white 3D romantic comedy short film by Walt Disney animation studios, and was directed by John Kars. The plot follows a young man whom is presumably an accountant, he meets a girl at a train station who accidentally leaves a lipstick stain on one of his documents, the story then follows his journey to find her. The sound within this short film is primarily non diagetic; being the mood music and the sounds added for dramatic effect. The music within the film consists of a harp, this is the main motif in terms of mood music, when the male character sees the female character for the first time this music plays, and this is then repeated when he witnesses her in the building across from himself. It is almost a type of build up music, to tell the audience that this part is significant, it can also be interpreted as quite suspenseful. There is also diagetic sound from objects in the story such as the paper p...

Genre specific- Submarine short film

Image
Submarine is a 3 minute short film, produced and directed by Cameron Whiteford and a company called Acid Flicks. Its reason for being made was that it was to take part in the 2015 Røde film competition, this short film is essentially a coming of age story centred around a young girl who loves to swim, I thought this may be relevant to my chosen storyline as it is centred around a child along with being narrated by the character. The camera shots used within this short film have proved to be successful in help to aid the storyline and narration, a wide variety of shots have been included such as; mid shots, long shots, close ups and also a few dirty shots. Within this variety of shots, I feel the strongest are the long shots and close ups, due to the fact that the long shots give such a sense of location along with enabling the audience to connect to what the characters are seeing, giving a sense of being. The very first shots shown is a passing shot, in which a close up of the girl...

Genre specific- Growing up imaginary short film

Image
'Growing up imaginary' is a short film made by a school student, it lasts around 4 minutes- therefore making it a very short film. This short film follows a narrative structure in which a young girl can be seen playing with what is assumed to be her imaginary friend (the face is blurred and he fades in and out), as the narrative proceeds the young girt must make new friends in order to not be lonely. This is very similar to the idea that i wish to convey. A majority of mid and long shots have been used throughout this short film, with the occasional close up thrown in. These are the most commonly used camera shots as they help to drive the narrative. The long shots within this short film give a sense of location, accompanied by the mid shots to introduce characters and followed by close ups to give a sense of emotion. This particular shot presents connotations of weakness and vulnerability, as it is a slight high angle shot the young girl appears smaller, as the audience is l...
